Phantomics (Co-CEOs Byung-Wook Choi and Pan Ki Kim) announced on the 19th that it received the Silver Award for Oral Presentation in the Best Trainee Scientific Awards category at the 12th International Conference on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ICMRI 2024) for its study titled, “Development and Validation of Automated LGE Analysis Methods for Cardiac MRI in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.” The award recipient is Senior Researcher Jaeyoon Shim from Phantomics’ Product R&D Division.

ICMRI, an academic conference organized annually by the Korean Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (KSMRM), is a global platform where MRI researchers gather to discuss the clinical application and utilization of MRI imaging technologies.

At this year’s conference, Senior Researcher Jaeyoon Shim delivered an oral presentation based on research results that developed and validated an automated analysis method for Late Gadolinium Enhancement (LGE) in cardiac MRI.

According to the research team, LGE imaging is widely used to quantitatively measure cardiac tissue fibrosis or scarring. The most commonly employed quantitative LGE analysis methods are STRM and FWHM. However, STRM requires manual selection of a reference region in the normal myocardium (non-fibrotic region), while FWHM requires manual selection of a reference region in the enhanced myocardium (fibrotic region). This reliance on manual input has been a significant limitation.

To address these challenges, the Phantomics research team developed an image processing method that automatically determines reference regions for each analysis technique. They applied this automated LGE analysis method to cases of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, demonstrating its clinical utility.

Co-CEO Pan Ki Kim remarked, “We are thrilled that our research excellence has been internationally recognized with the Silver Award for Oral Presentation at ICMRI. Phantomics is committed to developing automated technologies that can be practically utilized in clinical settings, driving the democratization of cardiac MRI and contributing to overcoming cardiovascular diseases.”

Meanwhile, Phantomics has developed Myomics, an innovative solution that leverages advanced AI technology to reduce cardiac MRI analysis time from 30 minutes to under 2 minutes while delivering diagnostic accuracy comparable to tissue biopsies. Myomics enables the safe and precise diagnosis of suspected myocardial diseases such as heart failure, myocardial infarction, myocarditis, and amyloidosis, empowering medical professionals to diagnose patients more efficiently and effectively.
